The Department was started in 2004 to afford a spotlight for pharmaceutical analysis at the KMCH College of Pharmacy. The department is provided with eminent faculty and researchers. Department of Pharmaceutical analysis is a central part of all the post graduate departments. The principal focus of the department is to development and application of analytical methods and techniques relevant to pharmaceutical sciences. The Pharmaceutical Analysis laboratory is closely associated with other departments of the Institution.
The Department is well equipped with modern analytical instruments and other facilities. A sophisticated central instrument lab is also under development to cater to the needs of analytical assistance to students and faculty. The department involves in various research activities like development and validation of novel analytical methods by using HPLC & UV-visible spectrophotometer. The faculty members have been attending various seminars, workshops and conferences at National and International levels. They have also been presenting and publishing their research findings in National/International journals.
Many research projects are currently under way in a range of general and specific analytical problems utilizing a variety of instrumental and mathematical techniques. Chromatographic techniques are widely used with high-performance liquid chromatography and HPTLC.
The Following are the main research areas being actively involved in the department
Development and validation of analytical methods for multi component drugs in their formulations.
Development and validation of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models of certain new formulations.
Development and validation of analytical methods for detection and quantification of food marker compounds in food products.
Development and validation of chiral separation of some enantiomeric drugs by HPLC.
Conducting the workshops & seminars for academicians and chemists in quality control departments on analytical method development.
Conducting accelerated stability studies, Pharmacokinetics studies, Bioavailability and Bioequivalence studies.
Standardization of the herbal products by HPLC and HPTLC.
Analysis of Drug Impurities.
Sophisticated Equipments in the Department
Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrophotometer (FT – IR).
High Performance Liquid Chromatography with PDA Detector.
High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography.
Rotary Vacuum Evaporator with Chiller.
Department of Science and technology, New Delhi has sanctioned Rs.48.87 lakhs under Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Research Programme (DPRP) scheme for Collaborative project with the Department of Pharmaceutics.
The department library is well equipped with up-to-the-minute facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROMs, On-line databases, audio video cassettes, books, e-journals, patents, e-standards, theses, reports, monographs etc.
